HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (November 3, 2010) – On the strength of strong reviews from Southern California food critics, and word of mouth from satisfied customers, the buzz about Pee Wee’s Famous Hot Dogs and Hamburgers is growing – as is the line of customers that frequently stretches out the door. And, in honor of foodies everywhere, Pee Wee's proudly announces that, as of October 31st, they are now open 7 days a week!

And though the Huntington Beach restaurant may still be a hidden secret among those who have tried their food, it won’t take long for people to find out they can get authentic Chicago-style hot dogs without the hassle of cross-country travel.

Jeff Overly of The Orange County Register’s online Food Frenzy section wrote, “I am always skeptical of any restaurant with the word ‘famous’ in its name. Too often it’s abundantly clear that the restaurant in question is not well-known and never will be, despite its celebrity aspirations. That’s probably true of Pee Wee’s Famous Hot Dogs and Hamburgers – but not for long. This three-month-old spot in Huntington Beach is dishing out super-stellar all-American fare with a multicultural twist, and I feel pretty confident it’s going to make the big time.”

As you might expect, one of the top-selling items is the Supreme Chili Dog, a jumbo hand-rolled German Frankfurter on a fresh French baguette, topped with chili (“top-notch – smooth, rich and moderately spiced, letting it impress without stealing the spotlight” said The Orange County Register), cheese, onions and mustard.

In keeping with Pee Wee’s interior surfing theme, many patrons gravitate to the Hawaiian Dog. Served on warm, sweet Hawaiian bread, the gourmet chicken sausage comes with a choice of spicy Habanero mustard, jalapeno or mango relish for a taste that will transport you across the ocean to a Maui beach.

For a truly great hot dog encounter, you need to start with a truly great hot dog. Many of Pee Wee’s offerings start with a classic Vienna® dog as the base; the Vienna has a natural casing that snaps when you bite into it which, according to any hot dog aficionado, is critical to an authentic Chicago or New York experience.

Those craving a burger won’t feel like an outsider. Customers can choose between several types of patties, including 100 percent ground chuck, ground turkey, chicken breast or veggie burger. Depending on your mood, customize any way you like from a variety of toppings that range from the standard cheese to the exotic homemade super sauces including a spicy chipotle spread and garlic aioli. The really adventurous can even order their fresh USDA Choice ground chuck patty stuffed with blue cheese, bacon and grilled onions.

Going beyond the traditional fare, Pee Wee’s also has a number of unique items on the menu, including sweet potato fries and tots, hand-made onion rings, and lavender limeade to quench the thirst.

“Pee Wee’s was founded by three family members who are all crazy about food,” said Herm Cundall, general manager of Pee Wee’s and one of the three. “We wanted to offer many of our favorites and share them with our customers. Our goal is to provide great food at a great price and back it up with great service. So far, based on the reviews we’ve gotten, it looks like we’ve been successful in meeting those objectives.”

Pee Wee’s Famous Hot Dogs and Hamburgers is located at 5942 Edinger Avenue in Huntington Beach. This is at the corner of Edinger and Springdale in the Marina Village complex. The telephone number is (714) 846-3100, and the complete menu can be viewed online at

Located in the heart of Historic Old Towne Orange, Haven Gastropub is a unique concept where “pub meets gourmet eats.” Having opened in September 2009, Haven has already earned local, regional and national recognition, recently named “Best New Gastropub” by Draft Magazine,
which touted it as one of three new restaurants across the country that have “breathed new life into the old gastropub concept.” Gastropub, a British term blending gastronomy and pub, sprouted in the 1990s and has seen a revival as the idea behind the concept was to provide a place where friends and family could gather in a warm comfortable setting and enjoy good conversation with quality food and spirited libations. Haven boasts 14 beers on draft and more than 60 bottled craft beers. In addition, Haven serves more than 50 specialty single-malt whiskeys, scotches and bourbons; and a worldly wine list, with nearly 50 wines by the glass. Almost every dish on the menu has a beer or wine pairing suggestion.

The menu, created by Le Cordon Bleu-trained Executive Chef/Partner Greg Daniels, offers a blend of old world European fare with a modern American twist. Under the tutelage of Pascal Olhats of Tradition by Pascal, and then on to Napa Rose with Andrew Sutton, Chef Daniels learned what it means to feed people great food. The result is a refreshing combination of treasured dishes from across the pond fused with familiar stateside staples from the Pulled-Pork Sandwich served on a barbeque sauce-infused roll and pan-seared Hangar Steak with herbed compound butter, to Mac n’ Cheese with black truffles and
hearty Chicken n’ Waffles served with housemade hot sauce and bärenjäger maple syrup.

Each menu item is made using farm-to-table fresh ingredients with dishes prepared entirely from scratch, including the award-winning Haven Burger, piled high with roasted red bell peppers, wild arugula, pickled red onions and St. Agur blue cheese; and housemade Salt & Vinegar Chips of red wine vinegar and sea salt and truffle fries served with garlic aïoli dipping sauce or housemade ketchup, also Haven’s own. The affordably priced menu ($5-$20), will also entice with a full selection of delectable desserts, including noteworthy ice creams flavors, including candied bacon, salted caramel and tobacco-infused.

Paired to elevate and complement the overall dining experience, handcrafted microbrews including Belgian varieties are offered alongside a distinct selection of boutique wines, scotches, whiskeys and bourbons. No less than fourteen handcrafted beers flow on regularly rotating taps,
including offerings from such breweries as Mikkeller, Brewdog, Stone, Russian River, and The Bruery.

Haven Gastropub is located at 190 South Glassell Street in Old Towne Orange. Hours of operation are 11 a.m. – 2 a.m. daily. Happy Hour menu offered 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Monday – Thursday and 11 p.m. – 1 a.m. daily. Walk-ins welcome. For more information or to make reservations, call 714.221.0680 or visit (on Facebook,

New Gourmet Waffle Shop Opens in Orange

BRUXIE Brings Gourmet Waffle Sandwiches To Orange County

First of its kind concept features more than a dozen sweet & savory waffle offerings

Orange, CA (NOVEMBER 3, 2010) – Orange County will be home to a concept unlike any in the region. Bruxie, a quick-serve eatery serving more than a dozen sweet and savory gourmet waffle sandwich offerings, opens its doors on Monday, November 8 in Old Towne Orange. The restaurant will feature an authentic take on the Belgian waffles, along with old-fashioned cane sugar sodas, freshly brewed Peet's Coffee & Tea, soft-serve frozen custard, shakes, sundaes and floats. Nothing on the menu exceeds $8.

“Our goal was to introduce this never-before-seen concept to Orange County and Bruxie has accomplished that,” commented Dean Simon and Philippe Caupain, Partners of the Bruxie concept. Simon revealed that the team selected the location for its first Bruxie based on its close proximity to Chapman University and the budding Orange Plaza in Old Towne Orange. The ‘Bruxie’ is unlike any waffle, it is light, crisp, yeasty and not sweet. It's street food that's perfect for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as a dessert, mid-day snack or late-night treat.”

Bruxie is replacing the city’s historic Dairy Treet, however, will pay homage to the 61-year-old business by reintroducing soft-serve frozen custard and other “Dairy Treets.” The artisan cane sugar sodas featured at Bruxie are produced in Orange County and are custom-made for the new eatery.

“We’ve created a menu that puts a unique twist on classic foods, everything beginning with a waffle,” added Kelly Mullarney, Director of Restaurant Operations and Partner of Bruxie. “For breakfast, eggs and Applewood smoked bacon are sprinkled with cheddar cheese and folded up into a waffle; and for lunch, an Angus patty with all the dressings in a waffle instead of a bun.”

The menu will feature two types of Belgian waffles. First, the Brussels waffle, light and crispy in texture, which, when cooked, its yeast aroma is reminiscent of freshly baked bread. The Liege waffle, a more dense, sweet, with Belgian-pearl sugar baked into it. To satisfy the sweet tooth, Bruxie offers several sweet waffles, including S'mores with toasted marshmallows, drizzled with rich Belgian chocolate.

The Bruxie opening menu will offer the following waffles:

Bacon, Egg & Cheddar
Prosciutto & Gruyere
Smoked Salmon & Dill Cream Cheese
Sun-Dried Tomatoes & Goat Cheese
Buttermilk Fried Chicken & Waffle
Bruxie Burger
Cheesy Bruxie

Fruit & Cream
PB & J
Nutella & Bananas
Lemon Cream & Berries
Ogura Bruxie

Bruxie will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and is located at 292 N. Glassell Street (at Palm Avenue) in Old Towne Orange. For more information, including full menu, visit

Don The Beachcomber Offers Traditional Thanksgiving – In The Tropics!

Give thanks in paradise – enjoy a holiday meal with all the trimmings

Huntington Beach, Calif., November 2010 – Enjoy a traditional holiday dinner on Thanksgiving Day – in the tropics! Even Donn Beach, the original founder and tiki-torch flame behind Don the Beachcomber would have offered guests the opportunity to enjoy a holiday dinner with all the trimmings, accompanied by Tapua, a live Polynesian show with singing, dancing and musicians. The Huntington Beach restaurant, located at 16278 Pacific Coast Highway, will be open for business from noon to 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving, offering the menu items below.

Don the Beachcomber Thanksgiving Day Menu

  • Prelude: Green Salad with Sesame-Ginger Vinaigrette and Squash Soup
  • Entree: Roasted Turkey with Gravy or Honey-Glazed Ham (choice of one), Cranberry Sauce, Tropical Stuffing, Glazed Sweet Potatoes, Traditional Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans Almondine
  • Dessert: Pumpkin Pie

The Don the Beachcomber restaurants originated in the ‘30s in Hollywood and grew to incorporate 16 restaurants under the brand umbrella. Donn Beach was responsible for creating and spreading tiki culture around the world. As defined by Beach, Tiki is a relaxed ambiance consisting of exotic, rum-based cocktails and tropical décor, complete with island-themed fabrics, torches, “hula” girls, palm tree motifs, masks, carvings and Asian-influenced food. Donn Beach gained much acclaim for his creation of rum drinks with a tropical twist, unknown then in the tropics, but now offered at every mainstream watering hole and bar. His famous rum cocktails include the Navy Grog, Vicious Virgin, Rum Cow, Dr. Funk, Zombie, Missionary's Downfall and, of course, Don's Original Mai Tai.
Although none of the early Don the Beachcomber restaurants exist today, thousands of other establishments opened following his lead. Unfortunately, many of these were poor imitations of his restaurants and tried, unsuccessfully, to duplicate the flavor of his drinks, losing focus on tiki culture, and playing up more of the kitschy décor that physically defined the locations. Under the ownership of Arthur and Delia Snyder, Don the Beachcomber is experiencing a rebirth with its first new restaurant in 20 years. The goal is to replicate the experience of the original tiki restaurants made popular in the ‘40s and ‘50s throughout Southern California, and in Orange County, where Don the Beachcomber opened its doors in Corona del Mar in 1969.
Don the Beachcomber is open daily, serving Lunch from 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. (Mon-Fri: Don's Seafood Shack menu; Sat & Sun: regular lunch menu), and Dinner from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. (Sun-Thurs) and from 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. (Fri-Sat). Kids 12 years & younger eat FREE with the purchase of one regular adult entrée during dinner hours Monday through Thursday in the dining room area.

The Dagger Bar tiki lounge is open during normal business hours and till 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. The restaurant features a special Happy Hour menu in the Dagger Bar from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday – Thursday (until 10 p.m. every Monday).
