HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (November 3, 2010) – On the strength of strong reviews from Southern California food critics, and word of mouth from satisfied customers, the buzz about Pee Wee’s Famous Hot Dogs and Hamburgers is growing – as is the line of customers that frequently stretches out the door. And, in honor of foodies everywhere, Pee Wee's proudly announces that, as of October 31st, they are now open 7 days a week!
And though the Huntington Beach restaurant may still be a hidden secret among those who have tried their food, it won’t take long for people to find out they can get authentic Chicago-style hot dogs without the hassle of cross-country travel.
Jeff Overly of The Orange County Register’s online Food Frenzy section wrote, “I am always skeptical of any restaurant with the word ‘famous’ in its name. Too often it’s abundantly clear that the restaurant in question is not well-known and never will be, despite its celebrity aspirations. That’s probably true of Pee Wee’s Famous Hot Dogs and Hamburgers – but not for long. This three-month-old spot in Huntington Beach is dishing out super-stellar all-American fare with a multicultural twist, and I feel pretty confident it’s going to make the big time.”
As you might expect, one of the top-selling items is the Supreme Chili Dog, a jumbo hand-rolled German Frankfurter on a fresh French baguette, topped with chili (“top-notch – smooth, rich and moderately spiced, letting it impress without stealing the spotlight” said The Orange County Register), cheese, onions and mustard.
In keeping with Pee Wee’s interior surfing theme, many patrons gravitate to the Hawaiian Dog. Served on warm, sweet Hawaiian bread, the gourmet chicken sausage comes with a choice of spicy Habanero mustard, jalapeno or mango relish for a taste that will transport you across the ocean to a Maui beach.
For a truly great hot dog encounter, you need to start with a truly great hot dog. Many of Pee Wee’s offerings start with a classic Vienna® dog as the base; the Vienna has a natural casing that snaps when you bite into it which, according to any hot dog aficionado, is critical to an authentic Chicago or New York experience.
Those craving a burger won’t feel like an outsider. Customers can choose between several types of patties, including 100 percent ground chuck, ground turkey, chicken breast or veggie burger. Depending on your mood, customize any way you like from a variety of toppings that range from the standard cheese to the exotic homemade super sauces including a spicy chipotle spread and garlic aioli. The really adventurous can even order their fresh USDA Choice ground chuck patty stuffed with blue cheese, bacon and grilled onions.
Going beyond the traditional fare, Pee Wee’s also has a number of unique items on the menu, including sweet potato fries and tots, hand-made onion rings, and lavender limeade to quench the thirst.
“Pee Wee’s was founded by three family members who are all crazy about food,” said Herm Cundall, general manager of Pee Wee’s and one of the three. “We wanted to offer many of our favorites and share them with our customers. Our goal is to provide great food at a great price and back it up with great service. So far, based on the reviews we’ve gotten, it looks like we’ve been successful in meeting those objectives.”
