First it was waffles for dinner, now it’s hot dogs for breakfast! Zagat-rated Jerry’s Wood-Fired Dogs on the Irvine side of The Market Place now serves breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. daily.
The menu includes a Smokey Joe Croissant, with smoked kielbasa sausage made with lean pork, cracked pepper, scrambled eggs and American Cheese; a Breakfast Dog with an All American dog in a grilled bun with scrambled eggs, crispy bacon and cheddar cheese; and a Hot Link Breakfast Burrito, with a jalapeno hot link chopped with scrambled eggs, grilled onions and peppers and cheddar and pepper jack cheese.

And though the Huntington Beach restaurant may still be a hidden secret among those who have tried their food, it won’t take long for people to find out they can get authentic Chicago-style hot dogs without the hassle of cross-country travel.
Jeff Overly of The Orange County Register’s online Food Frenzy section wrote, “I am always skeptical of any restaurant with the word ‘famous’ in its name. Too often it’s abundantly clear that the restaurant in question is not well-known and never will be, despite its celebrity aspirations. That’s probably true of Pee Wee’s Famous Hot Dogs and Hamburgers – but not for long. This three-month-old spot in Huntington Beach is dishing out super-stellar all-American fare with a multicultural twist, and I feel pretty confident it’s going to make the big time.”
As you might expect, one of the top-selling items is the Supreme Chili Dog, a jumbo hand-rolled German Frankfurter on a fresh French baguette, topped with chili (“top-notch – smooth, rich and moderately spiced, letting it impress without stealing the spotlight” said The Orange County Register), cheese, onions and mustard.
In keeping with Pee Wee’s interior surfing theme, many patrons gravitate to the Hawaiian Dog. Ming Tsai will be appearing at Macy's in South Coast Plaza to raise money to support the Second Harvest Food Bank. He will be doing a cooking demonstration and signing copies of his cookbook. Details are below.
Macy's Culinary Council chef Ming Tsai will demonstrate a few recipes from his new cookbook, Simply Ming One-Pot Meals: Quick, Healthy and Affordable Recipes. After the cooking demonstration, Mr. Tsai will sign will greet guests and sign copies of his book which can be purchased at Macy’s during the event.
Admission is $5, which will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. No reservations are required, but seating will be held on a first-come, first-served basis. Seating is limited to 200.

BRUXIE Brings Gourmet Waffle Sandwiches To Orange County
First of its kind concept features more than a dozen sweet & savory waffle offerings
Orange, CA (NOVEMBER 3, 2010) – Orange County will be home to a concept unlike any in the region. Bruxie, a quick-serve eatery serving more than a dozen sweet and savory gourmet waffle sandwich offerings, opens its doors on Monday, November 8 in Old Towne Orange. The restaurant will feature an authentic take on the Belgian waffles, along with old-fashioned cane sugar sodas, freshly brewed Peet's Coffee & Tea, soft-serve frozen custard, shakes, sundaes and floats. Nothing on the menu exceeds $8.
“Our goal was to introduce this never-before-seen concept to Orange County and Bruxie has accomplished that,” commented Dean Simon and Philippe Caupain, Partners of the Bruxie concept. Simon revealed that the team selected the location for its first Bruxie based on its close proximity to Chapman University and the budding Orange Plaza in Old Towne Orange. “The ‘Bruxie’ is unlike any waffle, it is light, crisp, yeasty and not sweet. It's street food that's perfect for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as a dessert, mid-day snack or late-night treat.”
Bruxie is replacing the city’s historic Dairy Treet, however, will pay homage to the 61-year-old business by reintroducing soft-serve frozen custard and other “Dairy Treets.” The artisan cane sugar sodas featured at Bruxie are produced in Orange County and are custom-made for the new eatery.
“We’ve created a menu that puts a unique twist on classic foods, everything beginning with a waffle,” added Kelly Mullarney, Director of Restaurant Operations and Partner of Bruxie. “For breakfast, eggs and Applewood smoked bacon are sprinkled with cheddar cheese and folded up into a waffle; and for lunch, an Angus patty with all the dressings in a waffle instead of a bun.”
The menu will feature two types of Belgian waffles. First, the Brussels waffle, light and crispy in texture, which, when cooked, its yeast aroma is reminiscent of freshly baked bread. The Liege waffle, a more dense, sweet, with Belgian-pearl sugar baked into it. To satisfy the sweet tooth, Bruxie offers several sweet waffles, including S'mores with toasted marshmallows, drizzled with rich Belgian chocolate.

ABOUT DON THE BEACHCOMBER
The Don the Beachcomber restaurants originated in the ‘30s in Hollywood and grew to incorporate 16 restaurants under the brand umbrella. Donn Beach was responsible for creating and spreading tiki culture around the world. As defined by Beach, Tiki is a relaxed ambiance consisting of exotic, rum-based cocktails and tropical décor, complete with island-themed fabrics, torches, “hula” girls, palm tree motifs, masks, carvings and Asian-influenced food. Donn Beach gained much acclaim for his creation of rum drinks with a tropical twist, unknown then in the tropics, but now offered at every mainstream watering hole and bar. His famous rum cocktails include the Navy Grog, Vicious Virgin, Rum Cow, Dr. Funk, Zombie, Missionary's Downfall and, of course, Don's Original Mai Tai.
The Dagger Bar tiki lounge is open during normal business hours and till 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. The restaurant features a special Happy Hour menu in the Dagger Bar from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday – Thursday (until 10 p.m. every Monday).
Irvine, CA (NOVEMBER 2010) – Prego Ristorante Executive Chef Ugo Allesina has introduced a new fall/winter menu with a variety of new salads, entrées and vegetarian options. The Irvine restaurant is also bringing back a few dishes that have been menu highlights over the past 25 years it has been in business.
The following items can be found on the fall/winter menu:
§ RUTH INSALATA -- seared tuna, chilled shrimp, crab meat, grilled zucchini, fresh tomato and garlic over romaine, house dressing
§ GNOCCHI SORRENTINA -- potato dumplings in marinara sauce with basil and melted mozzarella
§ FETTUCCINE ALLA’ANTONIO -- sautéed scallops, peas and mushrooms in a lightly spicy cream sauce over ribbon pasta
§ POLLO VAL D’AOSTANO -- sautéed breaded chicken breast with fontina cheese and demi glaze
§ SCALOPPINE AL LIMONE E CARCIOFI -- veal scaloppine, artichokes, in a lemon white wine sauce
§ VITELLO AI CEPPI – mesquite-grilled veal chop brushed with thyme butter and cannellini beans
§ FOCACCIA DAL FORNO -- half-moon pizza filled with mozzarella and fontina cheeses
§ CARCIOFO ARRABIATO -- whole artichoke stuffed with breadcrumbs, minced marinated artichoke hearts, chili flakes and fresh garlic
§ BUCATINI ALL’AMATRICIANA -- large hollowed spaghetti pasta with pancetta, onions, tomato, parsley, pecorino cheese, and a touch of spice
§ PAGLIA E FIENO -- chicken, radicchio and pancetta in a creamy garlic Parmesan sauce with flat ribbon spinach and egg pasta
§ MELANZANE AL PARMIGIANO -- eggplant Parmesan with spaghetti pomodoro
§ SPAGHETTI CONTADINA -- wheat pasta, seasonal vegetables and garlic
§ VERDURE ALLA GRIGLIA -- grilled vegetable platter drizzled with basil oil
